When we eat whole, natural foods, stay active, and practice yoga, we shouldn’t need help to maintain digestion, circulation, and lymphatic flow. Environmental factors such as the air we breathe, the soil where our food is grown, and the water we drink, however, are often out of our control. In terms of the best postures to kick your body into self-cleansing mode, try twists, forward folds, and inversions. An excellent twisting pose is Revolved Chair Pose, which will encourage your liver and kidneys to release toxins, stimulate your digestive organs to get moving, and pump up your circulation. Try a wide-legged forward fold like Prasaritta Padottanasana to compress your abdomen and organs, and speed up elimination. Inversions like Downward Facing Dog or Headstand help reverse fluids from the feet and legs back toward the heart. Use strong, controlled breath to increase the power of each posture.
