I love connecting with all of you even though I may not know you personally; yoga connects us. Thank you for taking the time to roll out your mat, to connect with yourself and the divine that is flowing through us, and to click on my link. I enjoy sharing what I love and connecting with you through movement, breath, and meditation.
I am the owner of Urban Sanctuary, a boutique yoga and wellness studio in the historic black community of Five Points Denver, Colorado. Our focus is on supporting the marginalized community through unique yoga classes and workshops.
We pride ourselves in diversity from our teachers to our offerings to our nonprofit arm that supports our movement of inclusivity, healing, social justice and unapologetically being US.
In your words, what is Yoga?
Yoga is unity, so Yoga is social Justice. Justice is the fair and equitable treatment of the collective community.
Yoga is the fair and equitable treatment of the collective self. Yoga equals justice for self.
Justice equals yoga for the collective community.
Self and the community are all the same, it is oneness.
The practice of Yoga and the unity of all things happens off the mat.
What inspires your teaching?
Healing inspires my teaching. Knowing that each one of us has different needs when it comes to healing is what fuels me to create classes that are unique in their healing offering.
Breathing, tapping, writing, dancing, singing, and sound are all ways healing can be activated and supported.
Some access a deep level of healing when they are sharing a sacred space in a community that reflects their lifestyle, race, and gender and that too inspires my offerings.
Healing is the point that every inhale is leading us to, whether it is individual work or community-supported, it all inspires me.
What are your favorite places in the world and what do you love about them?
I love love love India, it is hands down my favorite place in the world, so far. I traveled to India 2011 where I completed my 300 YTT and fell in love. The noise, the colors, and the sounds drew me in the minute I landed in New Dehli. One of the things that I miss the most about India is eye contact and genuine smiles. It is the place that I travel to when I need to be reminded of who I am and my role in this world. Its magic stays with me when I close my eyes, breathe deeply, and plan my next trip!
