Dear YogaDownload students,
It brings me so much happiness to share Iyengar Yoga with you through YogaDownload.com. While I can’t see you in person, I do my best to create a class that will benefit as many people as possible!
What inspires your teaching?
I am called to help others and find mindfulness practice to be a great tool to share. The physical benefit that comes through good body mechanics is something I enjoy teaching. In my experience, if the body is comfortable, strong, aligned, and open, it creates a container for the heart, mind, and breath to be open and relaxed. Ideally, this sets us up to be more mindful of ourselves and others, as well as engaged and happy in our lives.
What teachers have impacted you the most?
My teacher Devki Desai typically travels to Colorado (my home state) from India once per year. I had the good fortune to study with her years ago. Her teaching deeply touches my body, mind, heart, and spirit. She ignited a desire in me to travel to India and study with the Iyengar family and anchored me in the path I am on today.
How do you bring yoga into your day to day life?
My practice on the mat inspires me to live my life in a way that is focused on the present moment. Using breath and body techniques I am able to connect to myself more readily, and lead with an open heart and mind!
What are some other passions, activities, or people, that benefit your well-being?
I enjoy my life with my husband and two dogs, and am grateful to have wonderful friends. I am happiest when I am out in nature. I enjoy hiking, snowshoeing, rock climbing, and being in and on the water. I also LOVE to travel, meet new people and see new places.
What are your favorite places in the world and what do you love about them?
I find something special to me everywhere I go! My most recent travel experience was leading a yoga retreat to Africa on safari. Between connecting with retreaters, and safari in the Serengeti, this was a remarkable experience.
How do you find a balance between staying connected to students and finding time to recharge?
Between teaching classes, leading retreats, filming classes, and social media engagement, I am very connected with my students! All this makes it important for me to take time for my own daily practice. I also participate in silent meditation retreats twice per year. This provides me with a mental reset, which I need!
