Metta Mindfulness Music

Original score was composed based on the sound vibrations of the words "I love you." People from around the world, recorded this expression of love, while they were meditating on and in dedication to a beloved being or place More than 30 people speaking in 18 different languages were included in the pre-production research, and in the recordings and transcription into musical notes. The languages used in the recordings were Cantonese, Mandarin, English, French, Indonesian, Korean, Portuguese, Thai, Turkish, Norwegian, Polish, Italian, Farsi, Finnish, Hebrew, Burmese, Mongolian, and Armenian. The final score includes the musical notes from the English, French, Korean, Thai, Farsi, and Armenian recordings. There are no voices or voice recording on this album, but the sound vibrations of the words “ I Love You” in all the beautiful languages

The eight-tracks are mostly instrumental with only a few indiscriminate female vocals wafting along on “Released Upon Inception.” There are different melodies and rhythms that suggest trip-hop, down-tempo, avant-garde, experimental, alternative, new age, world fusion, and percussion music throughout. The multi-faceted songs are simplistic, but highly-textured and the final result is deeply satisfying.

Little Wolf Band is the creation of Native American producer/performer Jim Wilson, a project that means to celebrate Native American songs as living things, as sources and keepers of wisdom, emotion and spirit. Wilson has achieved this with a sterling blend of samples and beats, mixing in some live instruments and live voices to help shape his work. If NA songs are seen as keys to doors to different states of being, states of mind, then this is a collection of keys. Given this, Wilson has crafted an album of fine assists to a trance state, one that bears up well under auto-repeat, even endless shuffle play. The mixtures of samples have an intriguingly hypnotic effect, pleasant and beguiling, mysterious and yet comforting.

Waking The Cobra

Baird Hersey

Waking the Cobra is an overtone singing Chakra meditation CD recorded by Baird Hersey who later went on to form his Overtone Singing Choir PRANA. The only thing other than reverberation on this recording is the sound of Baird's voice.




The CD opens with a piece called "Atha", a Sanskrit word which means, "May the following have an auspicious beginning and successful end". It is the opening word of Patanjali's Yogasutras.




Next, is the title piece, "Waking the Cobra " which is in fact a collection of seven short pieces. They are meditations on the traditional shape, color, element and sound for each of the chakras. Hersey first recorded a multi-layered vocal background drone or moving harmony. Then, singing two pitches at once, he recorded the high melody parts.




This is followed by an extended piece called "The Conch Shell, The Wheel and the Sword". These words are taken from the invocation chanted before beginning the practice of Ashtanga Yoga. Call and response, rising harmonies, vocal textures, and overtone melodies, are used in this extended piece to investigate the symbolic meaning of the objects.




The CD concludes with "Between Sthira and Sukha. This is a phrase from Patanjali's Yogasutras which means between alert steadiness and relaxed comfort. This piece searches to balance those qualities by alternating low Multiphonic voice overtone singing and high falsetto harmonies.

Tibetan Chants for World Peace

The Gyuto Monks Tantric Choir

The Tibetan Buddhist chants on this album had never been recorded until 2001, when Grateful Dead's Mickey Hart brought The Gyuto Monks Tantric Choir to his California studio to record the incredible multiphonics of their sacred rituals. The monks gave Hart permission to overdub their voices, achieving the huge sound of the 100-voice choir as one might hear at their mountain monastery – with each monk's voice singing a complete, extraordinary chord.

Gyuto Tantric University preserves one of Tibetan Buddhism's most esoteric traditions, training many young Tibetan monks in the spiritual legacy of the Gyuto order. The world's eyes are on Tibet as never before – and these prayers for healing, compassion and peace have never been more timely or more relevant.
