Meet our August Yogi of the Month, Kim Rich Simons! Kim lives in a remote area, loves practicing to all kinds of different music, and uses yoga to help her deal with regular MRIs.
What is your hometown and where do you live now?
Hometown is Columbus, Ohio. I currently reside in Larkspur, Colorado.
What do you love about yoga?
That it is a life-long practice, and there is always going to be something new to learn from it.
How long have you been practicing?
Sub-consciously always. Consciously, about 12 years.
Share a little bit about why you love YogaDownload.com
I live in a remote area, where driving to a yoga studio regularly became something against my practice due to its environmental detriments. I have had a home practice for three or four years now, so being able to have so many options available right from my computer has been a great joy. I will download an asana class, pranayama, and then meditation all to do in one day.
What is your favorite yoga pose?
What is your least favorite yoga pose?
Do you have any favorite music to practice to?
I love practicing to all kinds of music, and it really depends on what I'm doing that day. If I am doing a Yin practice, soothing music that incorporates nature sounds. If I am doing a more Vinyasa/Yang-type practice, I enjoy anything from house/Asian type-infusions to uplifting lyrical songs.
Any unusual places you've unrolled your mat?
Well, technically, no mat unrolled, but I have regular brain MRIs due to brain surgery 2.5 years ago. They last from 30-40 minutes, and I meditate on the sounds during them. The first one, I needed Xanax to get through- now I just need my own practice, and almost look forward to them (almost...).
