Meet our December Yogi of the Month, Allegra Panetto! Yoga helps Allegra find her inner peace while works as a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa. Read on to learn more about this amazing yogi!
What is your hometown and where do you live now?
Originally from a small town in New Jersey. I now live in Washington, D.C.
What do you love about yoga?
A few years ago, I was struggling with some difficult demons as a Peace Corps volunteer in Malawi, Africa. A fellow volunteer gave me some YogaDownload podcasts, and after a few days I felt a beautiful sense of peace begin to emerge; my soul, which until then had been struggling, began to rejuvenate in ways I never thought possible. Yoga is how I find my inner grace, so I can share it with myself and others.
How long have you been practicing?
I started my practice in 2011 as a Peace Corps volunteer in Malawi, Africa.
What are your favorite/preferred styles of yoga to practice?
My favorite style right now is Dharma yoga, and I typically practice Vinyasa flows with a hip-opening emphasis. But I just tried a traditional hot yoga class and enjoyed the shift to a more position-based style!
Share a little bit about why you love YogaDownload.com
I love YogaDownload.com because I gave me the chance to discover yoga in my remote, rural village in Malawi. If my fellow volunteer hadn't given me the podcasts, I would be a different person than I am today!
What is your favorite yoga pose?
Dhanurasana. It challenges, empowers and comforts me all at once!
What is your least favorite yoga pose?
Bakasana. One day I'll learn to love it, hopefully...
Do you have any favorite music to practice to?
I actually prefer a silent practice. It's easier to connect with my thoughts that way.
Any unusual places you've unrolled your mat?
During and after my time in Malawi, I traveled to Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya and Madagascar -- all with my yoga mat!
